WHAT TO WEAR

The items on the following list are suggestions rather than rules.  Do what works best for you or your family.  The suggestions below are just meant to assist you in your decision making.

SOLID COLORS

Solids work best. Patterns and designs tend to detract from faces.

COORDINATE WITH EACH OTHER

When there are multiple people participating in your session it is a good idea to coordinate outfits. That being said, you don't have to be matchy-matchy. Simply try to stay in similar color stories and/or clothing styles.

POPS OF COLOR

If you would like to add pops of color, adding colorful accessories is a great way to do it.

GLASSES

Sometimes it is tricky to avoid glare in eyeglasses. And editing out glare is extremely difficult. If you wear glasses I recommend bringing a pair of frames without the glass in them.

NAILS AND POLISH

Chipped nail polish is very noticeable and it is extremely time consuming to edit. I suggest that you apply a fresh coat of polish, or that you remove polish all together.

LEGGINGS OR BLOOMERS

It is suggested, especially for children, to wear leggings, bloomers or tights under tutus, skirts and dresses. Children are very mobile and sometimes diapers and underpants become visible. Simply jumping, running and bending can expose undergarments. It is best to cover up the undergarments.

ELASTICS ON WRISTS

Many people, including myself, wear elastics on their wrist in case they need to secure hair out of their face. I suggest not doing so on the day of the session. It is one of the easiest things to forget about.

DRESS WITH WEATHER IN MIND

It is difficult to get good smiles if everyone is uncomfortable. Check weather the day before and plan your outfits around the weather. On this topic, keep hair in mind as well. Wind and hair don't mix well. Especially with children. Wear hair up if it is supposed to be a windy day or your session is at a windy location.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO PORTRAY?

Especially in the case of headshots and portraits, choose outfits that help you portray the image you are hoping to. Want to look like a boss? Choose a pantsuit. Want to look professional but approachable? Perhaps you can pick a business casual outfit with a pop of color.
